When Zillow announced it would pause display of Matterport 3D tours on its listings, many real estate professionals were caught off guard. At first glance, it looked like another tech-platform conflict — but for those of us in the 3D capture industry, the real story is about staying adaptable, informed, and client-focused.

As a Matterport Service Provider, Reality Capture Experts remains fully aligned with Matterport and confident in its ongoing leadership in 3D digital-twin technology. Matterport continues to provide unmatched accuracy, usability, and integration across design, construction, real estate, and insurance sectors — and this recent news doesn’t change that.

What’s Happening

In October 2025, Zillow removed Matterport 3D tours from its platform after an API agreement between the companies was not renewed.
Matterport and its parent company, CoStar Group, clarified immediately that this change has no effect on customers’ rights to use or share their Matterport Spaces anywhere online — including Zillow.

From Matterport’s official communication:

“As a Matterport customer, you can continue to share your Matterport Spaces anywhere, including Zillow. Neither Matterport’s nor CoStar’s licensing terms have changed.”

In other words, Matterport’s functionality and customer freedoms remain fully intact. The Zillow platform simply isn’t displaying these embeds at this time — a decision made by Zillow alone.

Matterport’s Strength in the Market

Matterport continues to expand its technology leadership, combining best-in-class spatial data with new AI-powered tools like Property Intelligence, designed to automate measurements, annotations, and insights directly from digital twins.

With over 14 million spaces and 50 billion square feet captured worldwide, Matterport offers a proven, future-ready solution trusted by architects, developers, insurers, and real-estate professionals alike.

Its integration under CoStar Group only strengthens that foundation — expanding Matterport’s access to enterprise-grade data infrastructure, analytics, and commercial partnerships that benefit both providers and clients.

What This Means for Agents and Clients

If you rely on Zillow listings to market your properties, here’s what you should know:

  • Your Matterport tour still works everywhere else — on your website, MLS, Homes.com, Realtor.com, and private share links.

  • Zillow’s pause affects only in-platform display, not your ownership or usability of the 3D model.

  • Zillow’s own 3D Home app can still be used for basic panoramic captures, but it doesn’t replace the immersive experience or spatial accuracy of Matterport.

At Reality Capture Experts, we’re helping our clients maintain visibility and engagement across multiple platforms by providing both Matterport 3D tours and, when requested, Zillow-compatible alternatives — ensuring that marketing exposure never stops.

Our Commitment as a Matterport Partner

We believe in partnership over panic.
Disruptions like this are a reminder of why RCE focuses on multi-platform resilience and client education. Our mission is to help agents, builders, and designers use Matterport technology to its full potential — while maintaining consistent results no matter what changes occur across listing platforms.

Here’s what we’re doing for clients and partners:

  1. Continuing to deliver Matterport 3D tours for marketing, documentation, and design collaboration.
  2. Providing Zillow-ready options when needed, using their 3D Home app or 360-camera integrations.
  3. Monitoring industry updates daily to keep you informed of new display or integration options.
  4. Maintaining alignment with Matterport’s official policies and technical best practices.

The Bigger Picture

The 3D capture industry is evolving quickly — driven by AI, better data integration, and new standards for transparency and collaboration.
While platform relationships may shift, the value of accurate, immersive 3D documentation will only continue to grow.

At Reality Capture Experts, we view these moments as opportunities to strengthen systems, diversify capabilities, and reaffirm trust with our clients and partners.

No matter what happens between the big tech players, your Matterport digital twins remain a lasting, portable, and powerful asset — one that continues to transform how properties are seen, understood, and sold.
